The impact of war on hawaii

Virtual Classroom Learning

Photo of residents of Hawaii wearing masks after the war.

Overview

When Hawaii became a frontline battlefield on December 7th, 1941, the next World War had arrived on America’s doorstep. The nation as a whole was unprepared for the conflict, perhaps least of all Hawaii, with its citizens thrown directly and immediately into the crossfire of active war life, martial law, and home front responsibilities. In this program, students get a vivid picture of civilian life in Hawaii during WWII.
