Title: Prep Cook
Reports to: Café Manager, Café Supervisor, Shift Lead

Classification: Non-Exempt/Hourly (part-time)
Expected Hours: 20 – 30 hrs weekly (part time) 
Pay: $15.00/hr.   

Job Summary:

We have an opportunity for a dedicated Prep Cook to join our cafe/restaurant team. The Prep Cook is responsible to assist in the preparation of delicious dishes in the kitchen, performs routine kitchen tasks such as setting up workstations and ingredients, so that food can be prepared according to recipes. Must be willing and able to follow instructions as well as all health and safety rules in the kitchen. Individual should be able to function in a fast-paced, busy environment as a part of a team.

PRIMARY DUTIES:​

•Follows the prep list created by chefs to plan duties
•Labels and stocks all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible
•Measures ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking
•Prepares cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat etc.
•Undertakes basic cooking duties such as reducing sauces, parboiling food etc.
•Prepares simple dishes such as salads, entrees etc.
•Maintains a clean & orderly kitchen by sanitizing surfaces, takes out trash etc.
•Washes dishes/dishware, cleans, maintains back of house prep area
•Ensures all food and other items are stored properly
•Complies with nutrition and sanitation guidelines
•Performs other kitchen duties as assigned
•Bags, boxes or wraps packages/food products
•Assists with delivery of food to customers
•Pleasantly deals with customers to ensure customer satisfaction
•Other duties as assigned

Secondary DUTIES:

•May also be required to assist with coverage of cashier responsibilities from time to time or on an as-needed basis, which includes; however, may not be limited to:
     -Assists all customers with placing food/beverage orders while using a POS system
     -Handles cash/credit transactions with customers
     -Issues receipts, refunds, change or tickets
     -Redeems coupons
     -Resolves customer complaints, guide them and provide relevant information
     -Greets customers when entering or leaving establishments
     -Maintains clean and tidy areas
     -Bags, boxes or wraps packages/food products
     -Assists with delivery of food to customers
     -Pleasantly deal with customers to ensure satisfaction

qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Previous Line Cook experience required

Physical demands:

  • This position routinely requires standing, walking, holding/carrying, reaching, twisting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, kneeling/squatting, sitting, climbing stairs/ladders
  • Ability to lift 25lbs on a regular basis

Compensation:

Range starting at $15.00 hourly, commensurate with job-related experience, skills and competencies
