Title: Line Cook
Reports to: Café Manager, Café Supervisor, Shift Lead
Department: Café

Classification: Non-Exempt (Temporary Hire)
Expected Hours: 20 – 30 hrs weekly (part time) 
Pay: $15.00 – $16.00/hr.   

Job Summary:

The Line Cook is responsible to assist in the preparation of delicious dishes in the kitchen, performs routine kitchen tasks such as setting up workstations and ingredients, so that food can be prepared according to recipes. Must be willing and able to follow instructions as well as all health and safety rules in the kitchen. Individual should be able to function in a fast-paced, busy environment as a part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Follows the prep list created by chefs to plan duties
  • Labels and stocks all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible
  • Measures ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking
  • Prepares cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat
  • Under takes basic cooking duties such as reducing sauces, parboiling food
  • Prepares simple dishes such as salads, entrees
  • Maintains a clean & orderly kitchen by sanitizing surfaces, takes out trash
  • Washes dishes/dishware, cleans, maintains back of house prep area
  • Ensures all food and other items are stored properly
  • Complies with nutrition and sanitation guidelines
  • Performs other kitchen duties as assigned
  • Bags, boxes or wraps packages/food products
  • Assists with delivery of food to customers
  • Pleasantly deals with customers to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Other duties as assigned

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • This person may also be required to assist with coverage of cashier responsibilities from time to time or on an as-needed basis

qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Previous Line Cook experience required

Physical demands:

  • This position routinely requires standing, walking, holding/carrying, reaching, twisting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, kneeling/squatting, sitting, climbing stairs/ladders. 

  • Ability to lift 25lbs on a regular basis.

Compensation:

Range $15.00 – $16.00 hourly, commensurate with job-related experience, skills and competencies.
