Title: General Maintenance Worker
Reports to: Facilities Manager
Department: Operations

Classification: Non-Exempt/Hourly
Expected Hours: 40 hrs weekly (flexible schedule) 
Pay: $16.50/hr. 

Job Summary:

Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum Facilities Staff are more than just work staff.  We maintain, preserve and upkeep historical buildings and spaces.  Our hangars, iconic tower and facilities are themselves exhibits that we share with the local and international community.  We take great pride in presenting the museum to the public. We are continuing to expand our grounds and exhibits and are looking for staff that want to be a part of something bigger.  Custodial duties are a part of the position.  However, there are many duties we need help with to keep the museum running.  This place matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs custodial duties, cleans, and assists with upkeep of the facilities.
  • Assists with maintaining the interior and exterior of buildings to include landscaping, servicing, cleaning, painting and rust abatement practices and performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician. Ex:  repairing drywall, painting, door repair, lock/key replacement, unclogging toilets, replacing fixtures, etc.
  • Proactively surveys buildings and grounds to identify and perform day -to day maintenance needs.
  • Inspects and identifies equipment or machines to ensure they are in proper working order and compete necessary maintenance or repairs as needed. Includes but not limited to vans, lifts, tugs, golf carts, dollies, etc.
  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools to perform maintenance work. Including painting, electrical, plumbing and mechanical repair.
  • Performs routine maintenance on building systems.
  • Orders supplies and materials needed for repairs and maintenance.
  • Providing setup, breakdown and other support functions for events and meetings.
  • Assisting with security, crowd management, traffic flow, and visitor communications as needed.
  • Driving and maintaining museum vehicles as directed.
  • Cross trains to support other departments as necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Education & Certificates

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Certified in CPR, and AED.

Required Skills/abilities:

  • Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or senior maintenance workers.

  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Military base access (DBIDs). Background check required.

  • Highly motivated and energetic, ability to show initiative and work independently.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, projects, and schedules by priority.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to rush projects while under pressure.
  • Understanding and dedication to the philosophy and principles of service to a non-profit agency.
  • Awareness and working knowledge of state and federal legislation regarding donation programs and grant processes and procedures.
  • Understanding of and respect for persons of military background.
  • Positive public relations attitude and approach when dealing with the public.

physical requirements:

  • Prolonged periods standing and walking.

  • Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.

Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum is a nonprofit 501(c) 3 at-will employer, located on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. Employees must pass a background screening for base access, which is handled by the U.S. Navy. Hawaii-based applicants preferred. No relocation assistance is offered.
